Sculpture 1               The Beaver

The Beaver Sculpture

... Shelly's first soap-stone sculpture in 2007 and in Sault Ste Marie is a very typical Canadian beaver. Now some of her admirers wondered why would she carve a Beaver? The artist's explanation is that she based this sculpture on her intuition which she perceived to be that the stone "wanted to be a beaver" Beavers are very Canadian. They exemplify the hard working spirit of the people in a land that needed hard work to become the jewel of the world's nations. As basic as Canadian industriousness is the artist's need to start at the beginning, and additionally, a major significance was to tie this beginning to her own beginnings and "...invoke the blessings of Mother Earth's greatest carvers" for this purpose ...
